The Panama City Police Department is investigating a drowning that occurred near the Massalina Bridge located at East 4th Street and Massalina Drive. The drowning occurred at approximately 10:08 A.M. on May 21, 2010. The investigation is still in the early stages however, it is believed that two middle-aged males entered the water after they had reportedly been consuming alcohol. One of the men made it to the shoreline and noticed the other had not. The male that made it to the shoreline re-entered the water to rescue his friend and was overcome by his efforts. Witnesses in the area entered the water and brought both men to shore, one of the men died at the scene the other has been transported to a local hospital for treatment. The names of the men are being withheld until their families have been notified. The investigation continues.
